Building Acetaminophen Awareness While Combatting Heartache

"I have never even heard of acetaminophen (Tylenol) poisoning and am shocked at the stats you provided. How is this never talked about?"

Imagine treating pain with a medication deemed generally safe and suddenly you start to feel incredibly unwell and wonder why. Because you’re feeling even worse, you might even take more of that pain medication. This is not uncommon, and it is one of the reasons we exist here at Catie’s Cause. We want you to understand what is safe and what is not with acetaminophen use.

Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in over 600 medications, most widely known as Tylenol. So, while it is considered generally safe, it has a significantly smaller margin of error in dosing than other pain medications and so people often double dose which leads to an unintended overdose. This unintended overdose can have dire consequences and lead to serious medical conditions including liver failure, acute liver failure and death. Because of the potential dangers with acetaminophen, and our personal story of tragedy, we founded Catie’s Cause, (501c3 public charity), to Build Awareness and Combat Heartache. Our goal is to educate about safe use of acetaminophen and share wellness opportunities that lead to less use of over-the-counter pain medications. And there is so much to learn, which is why we encourage you to follow our social media.

Some doctors believe acetaminophen is the most dangerous drug today because of the statistics: acetaminophen is the leading cause of liver transplants in the United States and the United Kingdom (where it is known as paracetamol) and the second largest cause of liver transplants worldwide. If you add up the costs related to transplants alone, you would be shocked to learn that almost a billion dollars a year is spent on liver transplants in the United States. But, do not overlook the heartache in families of those who don’t survive, or cannot get a transplant, or those who do and its impact: this changes lives forever.

Join us: Build Awareness and Combat Heartache. You can make a difference to those you love by getting our newsletter, following, and sharing our social media, and donating so we can reach more people. Together we can save lives, avert tragedies and make a difference for the next “Catie”. Catie is not alone, there have been over 233 Federal Lawsuits as a result of injuries, damage and death related to acetaminophen, according to Drug Watch. No one wants to be a part of this club, ever. And parents don’t want to lose a child this way, that is another club no one wants to belong to. So join us today and help avert tragedy.
